Minutes of the Bloomington Normal Citizens for Peace and Justice (BNCPJ) Meeting of Sunday, June 5, 2005 Members present: Bob Broad, Julie Hile, Rachel Hile-Broad, Carrol Cox, Jan Cox, Ralph Dring, David McHone-Chase, Rebecca Gearhart The meeting was called to order at 4:05 pm. A visitor to the meeting, Chandra Shekava, president of the Mclean County Indian Association, was welcomed by all. The meeting began with a report on Peace is Cool (the children's wing of BNCPJ) activities by Julie and Rachel, who highlighted their recent project, the International Art Project, an exhibition of over 100 pieces of art by children in the Middle East and the Twin Cities currently on display at the Mclean County Center for the Arts. Members then discussed the development of a membership survey that will seek member feedback on past BNCPJ activities and invite members to share their ideas on the organization's future direction. After discussion on survey goals, format , and specific questions, it was agreed that Rebecca would put together a draft survey based on ideas that were circulated. Discussion turned to the annual Fall picnic, and Saturday, September 17th, Noon - 5 pm. was agreed upon. Action Items: Ralph will contact the Unitarian Universalist Church to see if BNCPJ can have the annual Fall picnic on September 17th. Letters of invitation to the picnic will need to go out after the date has been confirmed. Rebecca will send an invitation to The Peace & Justice Initiative in Champaign-Urbana. Jan will send an invitation to the peace group in Macomb and others. David will find out about transferring the BNCPJ checking account and post office box to Carrol. Announcements: Due to the July 4th weekend, the date for July meeting will be Sunday, July 10. Due to the Labor Day weekend, the date for the September meeting will be Sunday, September 11. Ralph mentioned the 60th year anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August, which BNCPJ may want to help commemorate. Carrol mentioned the Call for Justice 09/24 - 26 in Washington DC organized by uusc.org/stoptorture as an event BNCPJ may want to be involved with. Proposed Agenda Items for the July Meeting: The Hiroshima and Nagasaki Commemoration event in August. The Call for Justice event in September. The BNCPJ picnic in September. Future goals / possible upcoming activities for BNCPJ. Mailing: BNCPJ membership drive and membership survey The meeting adjourned at 6:00 pm.
