Peace Rally

As President Bush was sworn for a second term today another bush captured public attention in the twin cities.

Members of the Bloomington-Normal Citizens for Peace and Justice marched around the old courthouse carrying signs and a small evergreen bush.

After their brief rally, the group held an alternative bush inauguration on the north side of the building.

Carroll Cox said, ''This Bush has never betrayed our trust. It has never mislead us about weapons of mass destruction. It has never made hollow statements about protecting our environment while pushing laws to harm our environment.''

The ''bush'' BNCPJ members inaugurated couldn't speak for itself. Instead, Cox talked about its virtues, saying they represent the values of members as well as many other Americans.

''This bush believes in equal rights. This bush has never attacked a minority for political gain.''

Bob Broad says despite the group's differences with President Bush they wanted to use inauguration day to send a message to the public.

''We wanted to have a positive message and a good humored message and inaugurating an alternative bush seemed the best way to meet those goals,'' said Broad.

Bloomington-Normal Citizens for Peace and Justice say one good thing about their bush is that it comes with a 12-month guarantee and if they don't like it, it can be returned after a year.
