BNCPJ regular meeting 8/01 Unitarian Universalist Church 1. Introductions and greetings 2. Scott Reynen and Jessica Montgomerie explained how to do voter registration. Questions were asked, and mostly answered. 3. Door-to-door voter registration. - in pairs. - We went to 88 houses. - Only 34 were home. - 26 of those were already registered at their current address. - We left forms for 4 people. - We did change-of-address forms for the other 4 so they could vote after recently moving. 4. Discussion of voter registration. - Everyone seemed to enjoy the activity. - But we weren't as effective as we might have been in another neighborhood, because nearly everyone was already registered. - We made plans to try to do this again in other neighborhoods (though not during a regular BNCPJ meeting). - We also hope to do voter registration at Culture Fest. - Many other locations and events were suggested. - If anyone want to join the Electoral Politics (i.e. voter registration) Committee: - Send an email to BNCPJ-democracy-subscribe@yahoogroups.com if you are interested in regular participation. - If you are only interested in a single event (e.g. Culture Fest), email Scott Reynen at scott@randomchaos.com. 5. Announcements - The Peace is Cool Club is still planning a camp for this summer. - In place of the normal BNCPJ meeting, we will be marching in the labor day parade with a banner. - We'll meet between 9 and 10am on September 6 at the corner of Front and Center in Bloomington. - Wearing your BNCPJ shirt is encouraged, and there will be shirts for sale there. - The Fun Committee hopes to have a third BNCPJ party, as a fundraiser for our own third party (pun intended) candidate, Phil Huckleberry, but we can't do a political fundraiser in a church (where we regularly meet), so we need another location. We also need a time. - Send suggestions to Bob Broad at bob.broad@ilstu.edu.
