September 2003 Meeting

Meeting chaired by Gabe, minutes taken by same. Reports were given by various personnel about Culture Fest.

The purchase of a BNCPJ banner is discussed. It is decided the banner ought bear the logo of the BNCPJ t-shirt. Donations are taken for said banner Bob Broad proposes a Get Out the Vote campaign and ideas are briefly fielded concerning this Julie Hile presents a project she's been batting around with Phil Huckelberry about a gathering of political candidates, wherein the candidates
will talk/chat/be interrogated by members of BNCPJ.

Carrol Cox and Gabe Gudding propose a 6-month retrospective on Iraq War from the date President Bush declared "mission accomplished." 

    -Hooking up with "Global Review" for such an event is discussed. It's decided that John, Indy's editor, will contact "Global Review" staff about this. Maria Schmeeckle leads a discussion of the issue of organization structure of BNCPJ. Maria raises important points regarding dissatisfactions re 
        
        - BNCPJ infrastructure and organization, failures thereof
        - the BNCPJ discussion list
        - long-range planning for BNCPJ activities etc. 

Maria proposes (1) the creation of a committee to focus on fixing the organization structure and capabilities of BNCPJ, and (2) the creation of a Communications/Community Officer position. This officer would be responsible for distributing organizational announcements to the BNCPJ lists, to the Pantagraph, Indy, Twin City Community News, WGLT, and to BNCPJ membership in general about upcoming BNCPJ events. 

Susan Heiser is elected Community Officer, which position she will hold
until March. The minute taker failed to notice who nominated her, who
seconded, or anything.

Volunteers for Schmeeckle-proposed planning/organizational committee then
