June 2003 Meeting Mennonite Church June 1, 2003 BNCPJ Acknowledgments Susie Burt handed out the Friends Council for National Legislation voting record report, which contains the records for our senators and representatives. "Bowling for Columbine" discussions were a strong success. Among many other things, participants noted how fear distorts our perception of the world and influences the choices we make/actions we take. Folks new to BNCPJ expressed their appreciation of the group and interest in staying connected with us. Thanks to Elizabeth Kosuth, Mary Lehman, Alison Bailey, and Lane Crothers! Upcoming BNCPJ Activities July Next monthly meeting: Sunday, July 6, 2003. 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the Mennonite Church. BNCPJ Pot Luck/PARTY?? We'll see if we can get something planned. Stay tuned! Mary Lehman is organizing our video library. If you have videos you'd like to be included in the collection, please contact Mary. Also, if you see television shows coming up that you think would be of interest to BNPCJers, please consider video taping them and bringing them to our next meeting. Last, if you bring brief summaries of films you would like to see on a "BNCPJ Recommends" list to the July meeting, Mary will include them in such a document. We would distribute the list at public events like Culture Fest. August BNCPJ Table at Culture FestÑAugust 16-17 This will be a great opportunity for us to expand our local circle/network. We will coordinate an event which targets strategy for electoral politics into 2004. Local Democratic/Green candidates and party leaders are on our invite list. Contact Julie Hile for more information. September/October We will hold a Future Search kind of event, with the goal being to fully articulate BNCPJ's vision and strategy through 2004. Built into this discussion will be plans for helping us maintain ourselves as an organization. BNCPJ will host Doug Rokke, international expert on Depleted Uranium, to speak here in B/N. We have an amazing line up of people who agree with us coming to B/N: Wesleyan will host both Michael Moore and Molly Ivens! Dates forthcoming. ISU will host Noam Chomsky. What a line up of people who agree with us! We want 100 people to march as a BNCPJ contingent in the B/N Labor Day Parade (Sept. 1). PLEASE PLAN TO PARTICIPATE AND BRING ALONG 3 FRIENDS. Please keep a steady supply of BNCPJ brochures on hand and pass them along to people whom you think would be interested in our efforts. We need help getting BNCPJ activities announcements into Community Calendars and announcements from local media. We'd like to celebrate the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights, and the good our country has done and might do in the future.
